Gorgeous Green - Painted Chest of Drawers

Here's a finished pic in the shop - and here's the story of what I did:-

I knew as soon as I saw this chest of drawers that he needed a really gooood, strong look...

I liked his curved sides and those cute Queen Anne legs, so after lots of pondering, I settled on greens and golds.

I removed all the hardware and painted bright green chalk paint, all over.

Two coats later, it was time to start waxing.  I used a clear wax and then started to add dark brown.  The dark brown wax is like boot polish.  You work it into the paint to get the 'aged look'.  It darkens down the bright green to this lovely, fresh grass colour.

The dark wax has worked into the paint and adds texture.  I've added gilding to the feet and areas around the drawers.  Then buffed up the wax to get the shine I was looking for.

The wax top looks really rich and gives a soft reflection.

I chose black and antique gold ceramic handles and put some gilding onto the drawer tops to finish.

I just love this piece now.

I think I'm going to have to start going through rainbow colours for May - I'm INSPIRED!!!

He's in the shop now and looking for a new home :-)

I can imagine this unique piece of furniture in the hall with a statement lamp... perfect...
