Furniture Transfers and Saturday Afternoon Workshops

Workshops are now running on a Saturday afternoon instead of Sundays.  When you sign up at the shop or online here you can bring along a small piece of furniture like a bedside cabinet or drawers from a larger piece.

Last week in a small workshop (I only take up to 3 people at a time) we focussed on transfers.

Here, Mary's painting a tray with Autentico's Violet Grey chalk paint (hairdryer for speedy drying process in the shop).

We looked at a number of transfer methods - Mary chose some French typography for black and white photocopy transfer.

Everything was sealed and waxed...

And ready to go home for a new use - no longer a children's games tray, now a drinks tray in the lounge :-)

French Country Chest of Drawers- Duck Egg Blue Paint

Painting pine furniture with Duck Egg Blue paint and shabbying it up to give it that country feel is a real pleasure!

Here's the before pic:

This is a sturdy little chest of drawers, the handles have been changed at some point and it's pretty scuffed up - but not in a good way!

I painted all over (including the back) using Autentico's Troubled Waters - which is that veeeery French  yummy grey blue colour.  Then gave it some violent distressing with sandpaper and waxed to finish.

There's always more :-)  I replaced the old handles with one of my favourite ceramic 'bee design' drawer pulls.  I also painted the inside of the drawers in Violet Grey and finished with a little bit of gilding around the drawer tops.

I want to keep this French Country style, the legs are so pretty.

All the surfaces have been given a couple of coats of clear wax to seal and protect.

Tres jolie :-)

Summer White and Greys - Dressing Tables

I have a number of white dressers and am currently using grey, silver and white chalk paints and waxes on dressing tables.

This shabby chic dresser has been painted all over in coats of Roman White chalk paint.  The handles are changed to crystal - so they create a lovely rainbow when the sun shines :-)

The insides are painted in Violet Grey with sliver gilding finishing off the drawer tops.

And I'm sooo happy the lovely weather is back again... I can't believe I managed to catch this crane taking off from the Kelvin River with my iphone this week!

Duck Egg Blue - Rustic Cupboard

Oh hurruh for June - feels like summer now and I've been able to get outside as it's stopped raining.

I picked up this simple little washstand/ cupboard with one drawer over and wanted to turn it into something a little more rustic.  Loving how it's finished up.

So here's how she started out...

You can see this would have been a cute piece of furniture in it's day, but fading away in the corner now and desperately in need of a new look.

I painted the insides of the cupboards and drawer in a Violet Grey chalk paint (it ain't pink) - nice that the cupboards are separate spaces..

The colour all over is a 'Duck Egg Blue' or in Autentico's colour range it's called 'Troubled Waters'.  I've used gold gilding across the cupboard, drawers and feet.

Those original casters create just DARLING tootsies!

Actually, there was more work to this piece than immediately meets the eye - I needed to fill the holes from the original hardware after I removed them and then re-drill through and sand to ensure the new pulls were aligned properly.

Never a dull day... aren't these French Bee ceramic handles adorable?

I'm really pleased with the new rustic look of this piece - all finished with a bit of shabby sanding and sealed with clear wax :-)
