Pink and Grey - Inspirational Desk

Open the drawer, take out your laptop, pull down the desk et voila!  What a fabulous workstation. How could you NOT be inspired?

I got so excited about refurbing this bureau that I'd already started colour testing before any pics... here's a quick look at part of the before - inside...

So you get the picture?  It's a lovely old bureau, very solid old walnut, but it's had it.  BORING!!  It needed a new lease of life and that's where I arrive armed with pink and grey :-)

And, hello beautiful! Just a lovely old piece of furniture.  The grey paint which has been added all over the outside - it's called Foggy Venice from Autentico's Vintage chalk paint range.

I went crazy for those little tootsies and just had to add antique gold gilding to those platform slippers!

The shell at the centre adds style - although I've finished the grey chalk paint with a clear wax - I've added some dark wax to bring out all the detail to the carving at the bottom of this piece.

I took all the hardware off for the refurb and then put it all back on again - cutest brass handles.

The chalk paint can be put straight on to the original leather pad, it's been refurbed too and the insides have been sealed with a dead matt varnish.

Swanky or what?  This wonderful magenta pink colour is called Heliotrope.  I think it's VERY ChouChou.

The original key locks the bureau top - and she just sits there looking all prim and proper (ah, bonjour Fifi).

Such a nice surprise to find that colour.  That final, internal drawer is painted gold inside.  Oh it just wants to be taken home!

Going for Gold - refurbished desk

I'm soooo excited, we're surrounded by the Commonwealth Games that started today.  The weather has been great so I've been out on the street working on furniture.  This is a dressing table turned into a gold desk.

Originally, this dressing table had a single mirror across the back, however it can no longer be fitted to the mirror struts - I'm hoping to hang it above the desk on the wall back in the shop.

It's been painted all over in Autentico's 'Nearly Black' chalk paint and then the whole thing has been waxed in layers of gold.  Yup, I finally went all out with the gold.

The gold has  been applied more strongly to define the shape around the drawers and highlights the serpentine flow of the top.

The drawers are painted Gers Blu inside - a cornflower blue - for a lift of colour.

And I left the original handles, they're in great condition, heavy brass that works well against the dark tone and gold.

I took all the photos outside as I finished her this afternoon, the gold creates a lovely soft shine that looks even better indoors...

I think this would make a stunning desk, BUT with a free standing mirror or wall mounted mirror, would still be a fabulously stylish dressing table.

Wedding Shop - Desk Refurb

I've been out scouting - a customer with a wedding shop wants a stylish desk.

I mean, think about it - if you're in a wedding shop wouldn't you want a desk that's a little more romantic than the average utilitarian design?

I've been out scouting and found this dressing table.

The long legs and curved drawers are great features.

I removed the mirrors and gave the whole thing a few coats of Roman White and then shabbied up the paintwork.

Just enough to bring out the curves and flourishes...

Those curvy legs have been given Antique Gold boots :-)

The handles have been coated in Antique Gold enamel.

To finish, the whole desk has been given a coat of satin varnish to protect against knocks and bumps.  Next stop, the shop.  Can't wait to see it set up with the phone, flowers and diary.
