Classic 1950s French Style Chest of Drawers - Painted Cream

This lovely chest of drawers is just such a classic...

These 1950s and early 60s pieces of furniture are great finds, they're solid wood, beautifully made and will last for decades.

Here's a before pic.  Originally painted in cream with silver handles, I wanted to stay true to the original look, but after 60 or so years of wear and tear, she needed an upgrade!

She's been painted all over with Autentico's Paris White Chalk Paint -  a soft, vanilla ice cream colour.

The design of these handles is gorgeous. I've refurbed in the same colour of cream and then gilded with gold to bring though the design.

I kept things simple - adding gold to the edges of the drawers and lightly on the feet.

Here's some white bookends against the cream... such a pretty colour.

The insides of the drawers have been gilded too, not too much bling, but couldn't resist a bit.

In the shop now and ready for a new home :-)

Mid Century and Pine - Chests of Drawers

A lot of people own brown furniture, whether it's old quality pine or inherited Mid-Century pieces.  And I've painted LOTS of chests of drawers.  Here's a look at two typical pieces:

These two drawers have been painted with a white chalk paint when the drawers were removed.

The teak on the drawers is a lovely grain, so the drawers have been re-stained and then sealed to really bring through that design.

This type of Mid-Century furniture looks great, part painted in a strong, clean colour.

I also just finished painted a chest of drawers for a customer.  A nice piece of pine, but to get up to date and drop the broooooowwwwwn, I've painted all over in a soft white.

The handles were painted too, then a metallic wax was added for colour.

Simples!  Looking good and ready to roll :-)

Sunshine Yellow Tallboy Chest of Drawers

I'm still in my RAINBOW COLOUR theme - here's some golden, sunshine yellow... a painted tallboy chest of drawers.

But first of all, here's the before and work photo - a nice piece of 1950s solid wood furniture.

I painted him all over using a pollen yellow coloured chalk paint from Autentico, it's called 'Sunshine'.  A very pretty golden yellow.  Here's the 'after' once finished.  What a difference!!

If you want to try painting your own furniture, once you've added paint and got the coverage you need, you can lightly sand away the paint to reveal the wood beneath and get some 'shabby chic' going.  It's what I did with this piece.  The chalk paint dries to a chalky finish.

For the next stage, when the painting's finished, add black wax with clear wax and build up a bit of character.

Silver gilding adds to the Regency look - typically golden yellows, black and silver.

The silver gilding has been carried through to the handles and drawer tops too.

Such a happy piece of furniture and n the shop now :-)
